The problem with his article is Gattis is not set to be the teams full time DH in 2018. In fact, if there is an opportunity to sign LuCroy , they are considering non-tendering him. Gattis would cost the Astros $6 mil plus if he is tendered. That's a lot of money for a part time DH/C that doesn't project as a full time player at either position.

Gattis is very popular. If Drayron were still owner he would be resigned 100%. I'm not sure if the GM will be more calculating with personnel decisions post WS or yield to sentiment a little. I would love it if Luc ended up here

Ironically, Luc was a HS summer teammate of the guy who was going to be the Astros catcher for years, Max Sapp, 23rd pick overall by Houston in 2006. He was incredible. Best HS player I've ever seen, well, after Zach Greinke. LH with big power and could have been Brian McCann, or better. Got meningitis at 19 and almost died. He was never was the same.

The problem with Gattis is he blocks McCann from getting rest at DH. He is also a terrible catcher, so is he worth $6 Mil per year? They are looking to improve defensively and also keep McCann fresh because he has old knees. They are also going to give Derek Fisher former #1 pick a shot at the job in LF this spring. That would move Gonzalez back to his role of utility player and splitting time with Gurriel at 1st Base. If Fisher wins that job, there is no room for Gattis and you can DH McCann, Gonzalez and Gurriel.

That would be breaking news if he is not on an opening day roster.

Well, that sucks. Hopefully he has a great year and gets paid with a long term deal next season

$6.5 million for the year. Not bad. Kick butt. Get a multi year deal in a year.

Do y'all think Luke regrets not signing the 3year $21 Million deal with the Rockies? OR did he really not like it there?

I'm sure he's bummed about it, but this seems like one of the obvious "trade to a contender at the deadline" deals if he plays well. Hope he bounces back and gets some big money.

And donates some of that money to Louisiana Baseball program to allow Robe to hire a top notch hitting coach?

    Sorry, wrong thread.
