Thread: Sun Belt brings out best for non-promoted event

  1. Track & Field Sun Belt brings out best for non-promoted event

Arkansas State and South Alabama are the teams to beat, but it was Troy that made the most noise on the opening day of the Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Championships at the UL Lafayette Track and Soccer complex Friday.

The three-day meet featured only six events Friday, including the men's and women's discus, day one events in the heptathlon and the decathlon and the 10,000-meter runs for men and women.

Because of the heat and near unbearable humidity, the distance races, which translate to 25 trips around the 400- meter track, were scheduled to be run beginning at 9 p.m. Friday evening.

In the heptathlon Troy's Juzil Rudolph holds an advantage over Florida International's Laureni Louissaint. Rudolph's 3159 point total includes wins in three of the four events.
