    Default RIP George Almones

Former Cajun Basketball standout George "Jabo" Almones died from complications of heart failure in December in his hometown of Lakeland,FL. Almones, one of the most heralded recruits to ever sign with the Cajun program played from 1982-83 to 84-85 and led the Cajuns to an at large berth in the 83 NCAA tournament as well as NIT appearances in 84 and 85. He was dismissed from the team following the 85 season for reasons that I think to this day no one associated with the program or University will comment on, at least publically. This guy was a "freak athelete" . If you could have combined his athletic ability with running mate Cedric Hill's ability to shoot the basketball you would have had, well, Andrey Toney.

If memory serves correct, it came down to USL and USF, but Syracuse got on hm pretty hard late and we almost lost him. This guy was a Parade All American in both Football AND Basketball. How often does that happen?

    What a drag.

Sick team his freshman year. Spent many nights with Zee watching that team.

    Big bummer.
