How many sports did you play? We were only in Big West for football and Am South and Sun Belt for other sports back then.

@ Bluedog......I have a question...... If you guys have such a superior situation in Ruston, why do coaches bail so fast? Could it be that those blue tarps aren't cheering for their team? Dooley, dykes, crowton, et al obviously see something the faithful do not.

UL Football Re: UL to Conference USA... ?

Big East on verge of rupturing due to TooLame, and other issues.

    http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...to_Split_.html

If the Big East basketball schools are successful in their gambit to regain their name, and NCAA money where does that leave schools like TooLame, ECU, and the rest?

Clearly C USA could retake some, but will they and who? If the football members form a new league they will spend several years outside of the NCAA basketball automatic bid and other big perks. Would Boise and and SDSU decide it is better in MWC after all? Clearly Tulsa, Rice, and UTEP want out of C USA. If Boise and SDSU leave will USM get the invite they deserve in the new league, will UL, LTU, get an invite? Does the Big XII make a move on the ACC now with FSU, Clemson, and maybe a couple of others. Do the Bearcats get into a weakened ACC if that happens.

All of the above hinges on a school that produced Bill Cosby the creator of Fat Albert. It seems Temple has an interesting legal question. They are the swing vote, but can they vote? They say yes, it says so in their agreement of 7/20/12, but the league says hold the phone, other legal issues may say negate that agreement in terms of separation.

If the Big E falls apart, SDSU and Boise would return to the MWC and the MWC would make a play for UH, SMU, and Memphis.

Don't know if they would get them.

The remaining Big E football members who are not picked up by the ACC, would never return to a diluted CUSA. They would make a new league that would resemble an awful lot the old CUSA lineups from years ago.

I think Memphis is a much better fit for the Big East as they are clearly a basketball school and geography would be much more beneficial to them than MWC. I thought that Boise and SDSU were already considering staying in MWC now that Big East lost its BCS qualifier position which would make an expansion of the MWC much more reasonable IMO

I'm pretty sure that the only thing those two crappy political parties ever agreed on was when they unanimously voted every week "Sh-t on Tech Week!" No offense, it is what it is, depending on what your definition of Is, Is!

Hmmmm..not one Tech fan says we have a "superior situation" in Ruston. We have a lot of work to do as a solid mid major, but I believe we have a good foundation. Now you went through a list of all our coaches since '95 & asked why they "bailed" so fast. Well, Crowton was at Tech 4 years & went to the Chicago Bears, obvious promotion (and has been @ 6 other schools since leaving), Bicknell was a failure & fired. Dooley obviously had a major promotion in the Tennessee job & Dykes the same for Cal. Schools like Tech will ALWAYS be stepping stone jobs for coaches, unless you get one close to retirement. If a coach does a great job, most likely they will "bolt" for a better job. I don't think it's really that hard to understand.

That's really not a bad situation at all. The key is just to hope the admin strikes it hot with the next hire. If our coaching job can develop into that I'll take it.

USM did great with Curley who could not coach but parlayed Bret Farbe into a gig at Ellis Who, then they worked they got Jeff Bower who did a great job for them for years and years, got fired for not being great anymore, then they got the Fedora who did a great job and is now gone. Of course they hired a aging assistant and the results are very obvious.

Point is you are what you are, almost every school in the NCAA is a stepping stone except for about four or five. You never can count on replacing a good coach with as good.

Hiring a new HC is always a crap shoot, but having a Bret Favre for your QB would make a lot of people look like good coaches.

Apparently, so does having Kolton Browning for your QB...
