    Default Opinion on Tailgating Expansion

As more and more people become interested in Cajun football I get asked often by new comers where can I tailgate? As all of you know the spots available currently are all taken. As this program continues to grow the university will have to come up with a plan for additional tailgating because it's what fans want to do. You have to make it an event for everyone those who want to set up a tailgate but have nowhere to go will lose interest quickly. Here is what I think should be done to expand tailgating. They need to get a 2nd band and stage in the field across Cajun Dome Blvd from Bourgeois Hall. This can either be first come first serve as it is on several college campuses or sold spots. Folks could park at Blackham, the print shop or the fields across the street from both. The bus loading area, the print shop entrance and the new trail through Blackham can be used for loading and unloading. This would give you all the room you need for growth for now.

I realize that Cajun fans are spoiled to having a huge field adjacent to the stadium where most just drive up to their TG spots. So before you say it's not good because the stadium is to far of a walk and you can't drive right up to your spot keep in mind that in most on campus stadiums this is the case. I have been to games when the Cajuns played So. Miss and if you can park as close as Fatima church or Albertsons you are doing very well. In Troy you have to park in a neighborhood that would be equivalent to parking in the Saints streets area.

What is your opinion on future tailgating expansion? Where do you think it should be?

We could use the grassy area across the street from Cajun field on the corner of Congress St. & Cajun Dome Blvd.

They have 33 acres across congress. From congress to the lite building and behind the motel. Cut the grass and mark it off. What more do they want. Not far walk either. Hire two bands and let the good times roll.........

Yes, no reason to deny anyone of tailgating spots. This year should be the best yet!

There will come a time, maybe in five years or so, when all of the area inside the fences around Cajun Field will have to be used for RCAF parking. At that time, you'll see EVERYONE's tailgating moved somewhere. It may be behind the Hilton, it may be in the big fields/lots around Blackham.

    But eventually, it will happen

If this happens it will mean we are a perennially great team sniffing the top 25. I'll take it.

I didn't think it would go that direction. I don't see that at most major schools. They still have a mix of parking and tailgating close and far from the stadiums. They just create a bigger mosaic of parking/tailgating as demand and available space is secured. I sure hope UL doesn't move all tailgating outside the stadium fence. I would think it odd to have the highest RCAF donors park right next to the stadium, and then walk miles away from the stadium to their tailgate spot.

I also believe it would contribute to more people tailgating and not coming into the game. I hope a lot of expansive thought is given to this and not some oversimplification on how it "maps".

Agree with JIM completely. Makes no sense to eliminate all tailgating within the fence. You could raise same if not more revenue by raising prices of those tailgating spots.

There will come a time where some will forego tailgating and go to their suites or the Cajun Club house for the pre game/game/post game parties for members only!!!! I think that the Frats will use the areas around their houses or areas close to the complex---This is an easy walk across the street to the student side which could very well be the IPF end zone!!!!!

The Cajun walk would effectively be over. As would the band by the front gate.

If the primary purpose of the area inside the fences is ever anything but tailgating, they are doing it wrong.

The perfect scenario is 100% tailgating occupancy inside Cajun Basin and RCAF members have to walk slightly less than Dr. Savoie will from out side the fences.

I'm hope the tailgating spots inside the cast iron fence of Lourdes Park will be safe. That location is great and makes it easier with little children.

What is the precentage of the fans at the game contribute to RCAF. In my opinion very low. Take the tailgating spots away and make it a complete parking area for RCAF members you would have 3/4 of the parking lot empty. From what I have read, this is becoming a game for the elite only to attend.

There are LSU fans (forgive me for the comparison) with tailgating spots that also have suites and they park in select areas near their tailgating... not near the stadium. Fan experiences on game day, including the highest donors, are not all about parking closer to the stadium. I know we are growing, but the concept of filling up the Cajun Field lot with parking only is a radical departure from what most successful programs do with tailgating and parking. If there's some mastermind of a plan around some offsite tailgating area that is replete with some incredible "super park" features... I'm all in on this concept. I seriously doubt that's where we're heading. But, just "parking" in some continuous lot that pushes tailgating to the farthest points outside of that parking is no mastermind's plan.

For those without reserved tailgating locations, where can they currently allowed to tailgate?
