Default Question for the basbeall long timers.....

I hear this being said from a few people and I just wanted an honest opinion.. not vindictive... no high horse.. just your thoughts.

A few friends/customers/acquaintances have mentioned on multiple occasions that we peaked as a baseball program in the years before Simoneaux left. Their argument is he was a major help in recruiting and hitting and we haven't been able to get back what we lost player wise.

    Do you agree or disagree?

I disagree and here is why look at what Simoneaux has done at Tech nothing to really talk about so if he was that big of a recruiter and coach I would think he would have a better record at Tech. Nothing against Simoneaux he did a really good job here but I do not think we have peaked.

I get what you are saying.. but what he has done at Tech is irrelevant to the argument. Maybe he is a better 2nd or 3rd wheel.....

Agree we have missed him. I like the guy we have backing up Robe now.

Things have changed a lot since the CWS. The northern schools were able to get the season pushed back. This did not directly affect UL, but now with fewer quality players from the North going to the traditional powers create a need to recruit the southern players harder for the BCS progams in the South. In the end it is much harder to get players we used to get.

The TOPS progam helped ULS schools but current NCAA negated a lot of

There are major changes in the landscape of college baseball since Coach Simoneaux left. Not the least are roster limits, APR regulations, scholarship distribution rules, the shorter season with the same amount of games, and many more BCS teams spending much more money on the sport and facilities. It's a totally different game.

We have a process started to locate a firm to develop a plan.

Right, but the truth be said......If anyone don't think facilities don't make a good recruiting tool you must have your head in the sand.....not pointing any fingers here.....So we search for a developing firm (how long this takes)? The firm develops a plan (how long this takes)? The administration agrees or disagrees with the plan (how long this takes)? They agree and search for the lowest bid (how long this takes)? lsua&m agrees to let us proceed. May of 2015 we have a baseball stadium.

Well I know Coach Szefc got a lot of grief about hitting from many fans but it just wasn't born out to be true. I posted the below many years ago but here it is again.

    From his K-State bio........

Prior to his position at Kansas, Szefc was the head assistant coach at Louisiana from 2003-08, running an aggressive-style Ragin' Cajun offense that saw a dramatic 60-point jump in batting average during his first three years. In fact, three of his team's batting averages still rank in the top five of Louisiana history. His 2005 squad set a school record for hits and finished second in school history in runs scored and RBI, while the 2002 team tied the school record with 145 stolen bases.

While in Lafayette, Szefc was responsible for overseeing the Ragin' Cajuns' recruiting efforts, instructing hitters and infielders and coaching third base for a program that won the Sun Belt Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in both 2005 and 2007.

During the Cajuns' Sun Belt Championship season in 2005, the offense dominated the conference and showed up nationally in major statistical categories. Louisiana finished eighth in the nation in hitting (.327), 10th in runs scored (551), 17th in slugging percentage (.495) and 23rd in doubles (155). In the conference, the Cajuns led the Sun Belt in hitting, runs scored, hits, doubles and triples. Freshman catcher Jonathan Lucroy hit .379 and was named a 2005 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.

So as far as hitting goes no I don't think that was an issue. The rest is up for debate. No doubt Simoneaux brought a lot of intangibles to the table.

There isn't a simple answer that boils down to one item. It is a list of multiple issues and there is a lot of gray and not much black and white.

We certainly do have a hitting & recruiting hitters & developing hitters problem - that is obvious. I am convinced the longer things go the more obvious it is that Robichaux is a top notch SEC pitchers coach and one day that is probably where he will end up! As far as Simoneaux, I really don't know but one can say this - we have haven't done a thing hitting since he left - coincidence or not I don't know but we still can not hit and one of these days Robichaux's mantra about "WE ARE YOUNG" will play out. Nothing personal intended. This comment is based on years of observation not this season. That said; good luck - good luck in the tournament.

I am one that don't buy in the "We are Young" crap......each season you have seniors. So where are the young ones. A 20 year old one season takes the place of a 21 year old the next season. and behold, he is 21 years old......recruit man, recruit.....

You are correct. However I think some want to attribute this excuse to Tony which isn't true. He hasn't made that remark and I've actually heard him say otherwise. I bring this up to clarify that some fans have said this and others seem to think it is being used by the coaching staff.
