In 2007...you scheduled zero CUSA teams....once again...no reason to not have a return game. In 2008...you scheduled zero CUSA teams...one more time...no reason not to have a return game. In 2009...you scheduled ZERO CUSA teams...I don't even have to say it, do I? In 2010...holy tap dancing christ...you actually scheduled a CUSA game...a 13-12 loss to USM in the rain. In 2011...oh my sweet jesus...two CUSA games scheduled!!! A 19-17 loss to USM, and a 35-34 loss to Houston. So...since the time we had for the return game...Tech scheduled 3 CUSA games...5-6 years after the fact. Lost all 3. Belonging is a vague term. I said it before and will say it again...Tech doesn't belong in CUSA, CUSA had nowhere else to turn. There is no separation...only lies and deceit from up north.
This is a good post CH. As I read it, I couldn't believe that was all Tech has played against CUSA teams in that time period. I'm too lazy to look it up and I trust your research. Time passes by - fast. And I was at that Tech-UL game. A few questionable seconds and one more play....those six yards might have been history and UL might have won. A lot of chaos at the end. All I can answer as a Tech fan is, the teams USM, Houston, Rice, SMU, Tulsa, Memphis, UAB , UCF......these are teams we've played and it just seems we played them here and there over the years. Some were WAC games. Maybe the OP was thinking the same and is as surprised as I am. And I have no idea how scheduling factors in with this. But, as I said, I trust you looked it up. Otherwise, we're both going to look stupid. Wow, 3 games by 4 points......I won't bother with any hows and whys......the point is, we lost. We'll have to try to do something about that.

Oh, and why do I have a red dot? Is that just a Tech default setting? lol

I used ESPN...you can go all the way back to 2002 and look at who played who and what the score was. I was at the last Tech-UL matchup. I had a good time in Ruston. Nothing compared to a Saturday in Lafayette, but...nice. The OP stated that he thought the reason Tech never returned the home and home with UL was because they went a different direction and started scheduling more OOC games with CUSA members. This is highly inaccurate, and grounds for a wet willie. You state...teams Tech has played...while this is true...it's far from having hardened rivalries. Let's look at them one by one over the period of 1991 to 2011.

CUSA Now: 26 total 16-10 61% winning percentage

    USM 1-3
    ECU 0-1
    UAB 4-0
    Marshall 0-0
    Tulsa 3-2
    UTEP 4-1
    Rice 2-2
    Tulane 0-1
    North Texas 2-0
    FIU 0-0

Old CUSA/New Big East: 12 total 6-6 50% winning percentage

    Houston 2-2
    SMU 3-1
    UCF 1-3
    Memphis 0-0

    Sunbelt: 28 total 21-6-1 75% winning percentage

    UL 7-4-1
    ULM 5-0
    Arkansas State 7-1
    Troy 0-0
    FAU 0-0
    MTSU 2-1
    WKU 0-0

    2012 MWC 46 total 14-32 30% winning percentage
    Boise 3-9
    Nevada 5-7
    Hawaii 2-8
    Fresno 4-8

    2013 MWC 20 total 13-7 65% winning percentage
    SJSU 7-4
    Utah State 6-3

2013 Screwed with no where to go 15 total 11-4 73% winning percentage
    Idaho 5-2
    NMSU 6-2

    147 total 81-65-1 55% winning percentage

    But that number is misleading.

Record against teams Tech wants to be associated with (The cream...BCS teams now or will be the top of the new merger)
(Boise, Houston, USM, ECU, SMU, Memphis, UCF, Tulsa, Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno)

    68 total 24-44 35% winning percentage

Record against teams Tech wouldn't have a problem being associated with (current CUSA members and Merger members)
(UAB, Marshall, UTEP, Tulane, North Texas, FIU, Rice, SJSU, Utah State)

    36 total 25-11 69% winning percentage

Upper echelon of that group (Marshall, UTEP, FIU)
5 total 4-1 80% winning percentage...hasn't played Marshall or FIU in the past 21 years

Middle echelon of that group (Rice, Utah State, North Texas)
    15 total 10-5 66% winning percentage

Lower echelon of that group (UAB, Tulane, SJSU)
    16 total 11-5 69% winning percentage

Record against teams Tech would rather not be associated with (current SBC members and the screwed two)
(Idaho, NMSU, Arkansas State, Troy, FAU, MTSU, WKU, UL, ULM)

    43 total 32-10-1 74% winning percentage

So in summation...separation is a myth. Tech would have fared better, had they not tried to be something they are not.

Look at their record in the past twenty-one years against the teams they want so badly to be like...35%!!! The only team of that group they had a winning record against was SMU...and they were horrible while Tech played them. Tech directly contributed to Boise's rise to where they are...everyone needs a door mat.

Their record against their new conference mates sans ECU, USM, & Tulsa is inflated due to UAB's awfulness and UTEP's crappy life in the WAC. None of these teams can come out and say...we are better than anything the SBC has to offer.

Their record against the SBC teams is misleading...they stopped playing us...just when we started to pick up. Records against UL, Arkansas State, MTSU, & ULM would be different.

The thing is...trying to play over their heads...is all Tech knows how to do. It's the only way they know how to improve their perception. Winning sure as hell hasn't done that...3 bowls in the past 20 years is nothing to right home about when you are trying to prove separation.

On a lighter note...congrats to Tech...you got what you wanted. Albeit, a watered down version of what you wanted but it's what you wanted none the less. They had a plan and they stuck to it...but looking back on it...was it the right way to go? Had MTSU really pushed for CUSA membership or FIU demanded FAU come along...Tech would have been on the outside looking in. They accomplished their goals, but only by a razor thin margin. Hindsight maybe 20/20...but had Tech decided to join the SBC...they could have been looking at being where they wanted to be all along...instead of backing into a watered down version of it. Tech would have competed for a number of SBC championships, had larger attendance numbers (tarp jokes would have been fewer), and their attractiveness as a football team would have been greater, in my opinion. All they got from being Boise, Fresno, Hawaii, and Nevada's doormat was a wave goodbye and no help for the future. If CUSA had picked another team other than Tech...it would all have been for naught. And it was really close to being that way.

Going forward...I see Tech only winning CUSA championships if both ECU, Tulsa, and USM leave CUSA. With the Big East imploding before our eyes...god knows what will happen. One thing we can all agree on...we all hope this idiocy will be over soon.

    Buy the ticket...take the ride.

no but we were scheduling SEC money games, 1fbs home games and teams like Army and Navy with percieved higher stature than playing belt teams. If you want to appear like you belong you have to play up and that was the philosophy. I agree we should have always been playing UL but that is not the direction Tech was going for.

Scheduling UL is not like scheduling FAU or middle, we are 3 hours away and have a past history. I don't think anyone is saying all you OOC should have been sunbelt.

How is being a doormat for a check and playing Army & Navy during the worst stretch of football played by both schools playing up?

well money games are a necessary evil. FCS is a necessary home game. And Playing 1-1 with Army and Navy only works if you win, and we went 0-4. Not saying UL shouldnt have been played but I am saying Tech was scheduling some pretty good 1 for 1s with bigger fish the last 5 years.

It's a pointless debate. Every argument given were valid reasons, to various extents, why Tech blew off scheduling UL. They will never admit to the less flattering ones.

Like the pants ____ting fear of getting their asses handed to them...looking at the all-time history of UL vs. Tech it's one of streaks. They go on a streak...then we go on a streak. Rinse, repeat. They cut it off while they were on a streak. That's one reason they stopped scheduling us. One easy way to tout an all-time record over someone is to stop playing them...while you are way ahead. They stopped playing us...right when we picked back up momentum again. Last season...UL would have skull drug Tech. They did not face a defense like ours all season. In 2014...if the game is played due to Tech actually growing some balls(and to think, Tech fans were on here saying UL lacks balls)...the streak starts for UL. Make them wish they never signed that contract...make Terry Bradshaw cry tears of sadness and need to be hugged by Jimmy Johnson because Tech just got demolished. Make Davison's wallet close because he cannot fund a team that gets obliterated by someone deemed as a weaker foe. Make CUSA rue the day they showed pity on a red neck school like Tech.

Hawk, I want to reschedule them. You just sent the dawg yelping across the yard, tail tucked between his dragging butt, headed straight for his dawghouse, eyes-bulging, frightened out of his mind.

Let's start offering little dawggy treats... "here little fella... come get you some easy wins in the Swamp... here little dawggy dawggy... Hudspeth loves dawgs... yes he does... yes he does... here little dawggy... you show them Cajuns what a big dawggy you are... come on little dawggy".

To quote Caesar Milan...you must dominate and be the pack leader. A dawg cannot respect and obey something it does not fear. We must put the fear of god into them...then they will beg for games. Like dawggy treats.

Caesar knows his dogs... but it's hard to train a dog that is owned by someone that refuses to visit your yard. I want to encourage the owner by welcoming his "greatness", so that we can get that dawg in our back yard. Hud will then take care of the "dawg training". They will arrive thinking they are God... they will leave with the fear of God restored to it's rightful place.

Good point...I still want Bradshaw to have to hugged on National TV by Jimmy Johnson...personal preference.

I want Terry to stop suffering from the effect of brain trauma... I guess we can both "want". When I picture those two hairstyles in a man hug, something just goes awefully wrong.
