Thread: Tech's Attitude in CUSA

Wow what a _____ fight that has started and I must admit although amusing is downright rediculous. Look you cajun fans have to admit that you have done some trash talking yourselves about Tech here and on that Sunbelt board. I think you guys coined the phrase, "Let them rot". I am from Abbeville and have a whole family that attended UL. It's a fine school and should be respected by La Tech. ;However I know that sports are sports. These two schools hate each other. But that is exactly why we should play this series and keep playing this series. It would flat out just be fun to hate each other every year. It should be the very last game played every year. Besides I think Tech would win most years and have nothing to lose if we do lose one every once in a while. But make no mistake, UL says we have attitude but you guys havent done anything to make the relationship any more civil. There are some days when there are more anti Tech threads on the sunbelt board than anything having to do with the actual Sunbelt. But count this Bulldawg fan as one that says full steam ahead with resuming and keeping this rivalry going. Let me finish by saying ULM, Let em Rot.

So why did it take more than a decade for a return game?

I also want to say that it is the "attitude" of La Tech that got them into CUSA in the first place. Alot of it is Smoke and Mirrors. But if you say something is long enough, in the eyes of those watching they will start to believe it as well. There is not much difference between what La Tech had to offer CUSA and what UL had to offer, but you would never know it by the way Tech struted our stuff so to speak. We presented ourselves with a positive appearance and a ____e don't stink demeaner. And the when the time came to make a decision, CUSA bought it lock stock and barrel. So I am thankful for the so called Tech attitude. One thing UL lacks that Tech has is a pair of BALLS.

I just think the schools went in different directions for a while. It appeared that Tech didn't really want to shun UL as much as they wanted to start scheduling CUSA schools. That is just another part of those inclusion by association. The more we scheduled them, the more it looked like we belonged in a conference with them..If UL was trying to get into CUSA and had to make a choice between Tech and Houston, wouldn't UL want to be associated with Houston more than Tech. I hate to say it but that is what Tech fans really meant by seperation. We had to make them believe we were more closely knit with CUSA than the Sunbelt. I hope even with the new regional games we continue to make Lafayette just one more regional out of conference game. These games are fun. The problem with ULM is that they werent fun anymore. ULM fans stopped even showing up so why bother. UL has a crazy proud rowdy fan base and they know how to party and so does Tech. Play the game no matter what conference we are in.

You are exactly right and that is a major difference in our schools. I commend Tech for being so bold. UL needs to get a pair, definitely.

OK Beaux, you're being cool about it, but there is some one-sided history. Once the forum smack got nasty, you can't just say that UL had the first attitude. Our biggest issue was Tech refusing to keep playing UL. If you recall, there were those at Tech, including the coaching staff and AD, that said "they had moved ahead of playing SBC teams". My olive branch, on more than one occasion, has been to stop making derogatory comments toward UL when the majority of this Tech trashing of the SBC originates with ULM.

Tech clearly made a move about a decade ago to begin the rhetoric that UL was beneath them in athletics (and academics). Just because UL began more than just the usual fan smack chatter was directly due to Tech refusing to cooperate in scheduling. It may take two to tango, but it only takes one to snub. Tech has snubbed UL. Add to that fact, if you recall UL offered Scelfo after Tulane football was falling apart a position, which he accepted at UL. He takes the loaned vehicle we paid for and drives up to visit Dooley and then within only days of accepting our offer, takes the Tech offer. Dooley gloated about it. I know some folks on both sides of this fence and that is a fact.

So, when you hear some UL people speak less than fondly of "that attitude" Tech took on, you can't call it a bilateral fan thing. "Let them rot" was birthed by Tech's high and mighty "we're better than to even play UL" attitude.

As for your quest for excellence attitude, I am a fan of that. I am very disappointed in UL's misunderstanding of the formula for success in a southern public university. Unfortunately, it goes so far against their natural grain, we have to have study after study and paralysis by analysis before our management will make a move. Tech has been bold and it is paying off. There is truly no good reason, other than better management, that Tech should be better than UL in anything. We (UL) have too many advantages, or did in the past, to be sitting in the athletic atmosphere we are in.

And when you guys took our top recruiter along with two of our top basketball recruits, you guys didnt spend the next week gloating about the downfall of Tech basketball? Dooley said stuff about UL to get alumni pumped to give money. Dooley didn't give a rats arse about UL or Tech for that matter. Our current coach hasn't said one derogatory word towards UL. And as far as academics, our President works hand and hand with UL's President. And they are very close friends. Alot of what is really going on is good old fashion fan retoric and alot of people get there feelings hurt. But I say that is exactly why the game should be played. That kind of stuff makes for fun football.

How is Nakita Johnson working out anyway. And how did those recruits that left Tech ever pan out?

    Agreed.

This is what I have been trying to convey to my fellow Cajun fans for years.

I've already agreed with you on that we should be scheduling each other. Hiring an assistant basketball coach isn't the same as the actions and comments made by Dooley. That is what created a lot of the worst rhetoric from both of us. I want to keep playing you guys and keep the smack going. There was a time, and UL did not initiate or perpetuate it, that Tech's administration was out badmouthing us and the SBC... and you can only expect it to get UL fans pretty hacked at Tech. But again, I do want us to keep playing ball... regardless of conference affiliation.

I believe that Tech vs Louisiana home and home should be the first game on the schedule every year. Both schools would bring scores of fans on the road and both would have a great crowd to open the season.

Now I can understand that...2004 was the last time we hooked up...Tech was a massive favorite...and won by literally 6 yards. 2005 is when the big CUSA overhaul came about. So...2005 you scheduled...zero CUSA teams. No reason not to have a return game in 2005. In 2006 you scheduled zero CUSA teams...no reason not to have a return game in 2006. In 2007...you scheduled zero CUSA teams....once again...no reason to not have a return game. In 2008...you scheduled zero CUSA teams...one more time...no reason not to have a return game. In 2009...you scheduled ZERO CUSA teams...I don't even have to say it, do I? In 2010...holy tap dancing christ...you actually scheduled a CUSA game...a 13-12 loss to USM in the rain. In 2011...oh my sweet jesus...two CUSA games scheduled!!! A 19-17 loss to USM, and a 35-34 loss to Houston. So...since the time we had for the return game...Tech scheduled 3 CUSA games...5-6 years after the fact. Lost all 3. Belonging is a vague term. I said it before and will say it again...Tech doesn't belong in CUSA, CUSA had nowhere else to turn. There is no separation...only lies and deceit from up north.

As far as I know Nikita Johnson is still employed here. Assistant coaches contracts are on a one year basis renewable on July 1 so who knows if he returns. As far as the players who signed here when he came on board, they are doing OK. Josh Brown was 2nd team all conference this year despite dealing with injury problems for most of his two seasons here. He will graduate this weekend and hopes to find employment in Acadiana soon as he loves the area. The other player who came on board is Scottie Farrington. Scottie was a strong defender and rebounder in a support role here. He also wants to find employment in Acadiana upon graduation. I am not sure when he graduates be I think it will be in December.

Our most recent basketball signee is a 6'7" forward named Barnett who is from New Orleans. He chose the Cajuns despite the fact both Tulane and Tech were recruiting him. Point is kids make decisions on where they will go to school for a host of reasons, conference the school is in does not always play a part.

There are not that many good football teams left in CUSA. Tulsa, USM, and ECU? The rest are pretty icky.
