    Default Today

Don't ask me why today but it just hit me really hard that our women's basketball team deserves better and the better that they deserve is better Coaching. It is not fair to do this to our team. I am not a really large fan of women's basketball but they are our team and we have to stand by them and not act like they don't really exist! The AD and Savoie need to do the right thing by them and stop asking them to perform under impossible conditions. If they are not going to give them a fair chance then - disband the program. Enough is Enough! Help or get off the pot.

I must admit that this team was one of the most dysfunctional teams that I have EVER followed or watched in any sport.

I agree. This program spiraled downhill after Rogers took over. I understand not getting rid of him last year when he had a year remaining on his contract, but I fully expect Scott Farmer to do the right thing and fire him. It makes no sense to win only one conference game. Anyone know what his record is at UL? I doubt if he won 15 games while here.

Um, he was given a 1 year "extension" at the end of last year.

Really? Hopefully it had a small buyout clause, so we don't have to waste a lot of money to can him.

And, he shouldn't have to be fired. It will likely be labeled "not returning", since his contact has ended anyway.

They will likely state a coaching search will start now.

You can complain all you want, but this school is not going to spend what it takes to get a premium coach. We will have to get lucky. The money goes like this, football, baseball, mens basketball, softball, womens basketball. We reall do not fund the first four fairly how on earth are we going to upgrade womens basketball without a stroke of luck, kinda like when we got Kelly.

To be fari he lost his two best players and I hear he has a couple of nice recruits for next year, but it will be somebody the worry of someone else.

I didn't hear anything about an extension, and if its true, the administration needs to be shot in the face, that would be the single most retarded thing they have done. I understood letting him coach to his last year because we didn't have to buy him out, but to extend the worst coach at our school in any sport is beyond stupid.

I understand that WBB is not a money maker AT ALL here, but we should be taking a gamble with a lowball offer every few years until we hit another J Kelly Hall. Until then, not renewing contracts makes sense, BUT, extending someone as bad as he is IS RIDICULOUS.

    I agree.

The situation at the end of this year mirrors the situation at the end of last year.

    No buyout required either year.

For obvious reasons there was no announcement. The administration took the stance "No change, no announcement."

Here was the article about Scott Farmer stating he had a decision to make. THis was after the 4 year contract was up Decision Time

Three weeks later and 99 posts into the subject (after talking to Scott Farmer) VObserver stated. Rogers given 1 year contract

Rogers has gone 38-113 overall (.252) and 13-73 in Sun Belt play (.151) in five seasons with the Cajuns. That includes zero Sun Belt tournament wins during in that span.

The Cajuns went 25-9 overall and 14-4 in Sun Belt action while making the NCAA tournament under the late J. Kelley Hall in the 2006-07 season.

    2007-08: 8-22 overall, 4-14 SBC
    2008-09: 3-27 overall, 0-18 SBC
    2009-10: 9-22 overall, 4-14 SBC
    2010-11: 11-19 overall, 4-12 SBC
    2011-12: 7-23 overall, 1-15 SBC

    Totals: 38-113 overall (.252), 13-73 SBC (.151)

Football then men's basketball rather than baseball in order of cost and resources

To be a top notch program you are right we must pay more however, looking at it from a marginal analysis perspective, it doesn't matter what we pay - he is not the guy! Why not give someone young and unproven a chance? Someone that wants to do well and move on. We can not do worse. Rodgers reached his highest level of competency as an assistant. At this level he is not competent (Peter Principle) he can not do it therefore a change must be made. In short, our new coach and getting rid of Rodgers are unrelated - Rodgers has proven he must go - period. Now who is next is another and separate issue!

I am in total agreement about the non renewal. That floored me when it happened last year. I cannot fathom a reason for it except UL does not want to fire black coaches in basketball in one year and then the next. You might get another Baldwin type lawsuit. So they gave in another chance?
