  1. UL Softball #10 Louisiana travels to #2 Arizona

It definitely doesn't get any easier for the University of Louisiana softball team this weekend.

Last week, it was the prestigious Judi Garman Invitational in Fullerton, Calif., against a national-caliber field when the Ragin' Cajuns tasted defeat for the first time this year in a 2-3 weekend.

Now, it's another trip west, and this time it's on a hostile field instead of a tournament situation.

The Cajuns (23-3), ranked 10th in both major national polls, will face second-ranked Arizona (26-3) in a three-game series that begins tonight at 8 p.m. (CST) in UA's Hillenbrand Stadium, where the Wildcats have averaged over 1,000 fans this year.

"It's a challenge, but this team doesn't back down from challenges," said UL coach Stefni Lotief. "It's a great college atmosphere. It's a tough place to play, but that's part of what we teach early in the season. The reason we went to Fullerton was to put ourselves in that kind of situation."

The Cajun squad had won 21 straight entering the Garman meet and moved that number to 22 with an extra-inning victory over Michigan in its tourney opener. But consecutive losses to Texas, Washington and Arizona State - all top-15 teams - put them into the consolation bracket before a tourney-ending 7-6 win over UNLV.

Arizona was also in the Garman meet, and only had one loss on the season (a 1-0 loss to Texas) before going 3-2 in the weekend tournament. The Wildcats won their first 15 this season and were ranked No. 1 before last weekend.

"It doesn't matter who we play," said Cajun junior first baseman Lacey Bertucci. "We play against ourselves and our potential more than we play against the other team."

  3. UL Softball UL softball falls to Arizona, 5-0

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona's second-ranked Wildcats got a two-hit, 12-strikeout pitching performance from Taryne Mowatt Friday in taking a 5-0 softball victory over Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns in the opening game of a three-game series at UA's Hillenbrand Stadium.

The Wildcats (27-3) scored twice in the first inning off UL starting pitcher Krystal Lewallen and then took advantage of two Cajun errors in a three-run fifth inning to give Mowatt (13-2) all the offense she needed.
