Fresh off the heels of the school's first two (second and third) bowl victories, Louisiana is sinking a major investment into its football program. After announcing a $115 million athletic facilities master plan in March, the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors approved the Ragin' Cajuns' plans on Tuesday.

While the project will benefit the entire Louisiana athletic department, the football facilities improvement will be included in the first tier of the project.

The Bowl Championship Series will be replaced by the College Football Playoff.

The BCS conference commissioners announced the name of the new postseason system that starts in 2014 on Tuesday, the first of three days of meetings at a resort hotel in the Rose Bowl’s backyard.

They also will choose the remaining three sites for the six-bowl semifinal rotation and the site of the first championship game to be held Jan. 12, 2015, this week.

Ragin’ Cajuns slot receiver Bradley Brown broke his collarbone in UL’s spring game Saturday, a UL spokesman said today.

Brown is facing a healing period of 4-to-6 weeks, the spokesman said. If that’s the case, the senior-to-be should be good to go for UL’s Aug. 31 season-opener at Arkansas.

Big expectations exist for the 2013 UL Ragin’ Cajuns and a bulk of those expectations are on the defensive side of the ball.

First-year defensive coordinator James Willis has used the spring to install a new system and, in Saturday’s Spring Game, Willis said he finally saw some progress.

Terrance Broadway threw for 107 yards and a touchdown and Torrey Pierce ran for a touchdown as the Ragin’ Red team defeated the Cajun White squad, 30-23, in the annual Red vs. White spring game at Cajun Field on Saturday.

With senior Harry Peoples' 122 catches over the past two years gone and senior Javone Lawson's career 134 a thing of the past as well, so many eyes - all of the aforementioned, and especially those of UL quarterback Terrance Broadway - are bound to be on wide receiver Jamal Robinson in UL's season to come.

The UL football team went into its spring figuring, and hoping, that one of three backup quarterback candidates – D'Shaie Landor, Jalen Nixon or Brooks Haack – might emerge as its new field goal and PAT holder, replacing dependable senior reserve quarterback Brady Thomas.
