Default Rollerhockey Defeats LSU, Takes Championship

Well, this one took some digging, but I stumbled across a mention of UL rollerhockey winning its conference. So I kept looking around the Internet.

Article is up.

You beat me to it Fun. I was gonna post my summary of the great weekend we had in Denton (especially beating LSU for the title 2 games to 0.) Only thing, I would request that you take the picture off of that page as that is the ice hockey team. I'll try and email you a picture of us with the trophy as soon as I get one from someone.

The Cajun Roller hockey team came into the playoffs with a #1 seed in the 6 team Division 1 playoff. As mentioned in the article, last year the Cajuns won their first D2 title and made the move up to D1 this year. LSU and UNO were also new teams to the league this year. In the first round UL matched up with Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were no match as we went 2-0 to sweep the best of 3 with scores of 10-2 and 10-4.

On the other side of the bracket, LSU matched up with #2 seed North Texas and after losing the first game, came back to win the next 2 and make the finals. As a note, most of LSU's players are from Lafayette and played with UL players growing up.

In the finals, the matchup was very tough, but it was always clear that UL was the better team. We controlled possession for most of the games and took our chances on the power play. LSU's individual skill could not over come the team effort of the Cajuns, holding the LSU leading scorer to no goals in game 1 and nothing until the 2nd period of game 2.

In game 1, the Cajuns never trailed as we won a tight game until the end, 7-3. Forward Andrew Hebert led the playoffs in goals and points though only playing 4 games as opposed to LSU players with 7 games. Andy scored 5 goals in the 7-3 victory to lead the way including a few short-sided top corner snipes. Goalie Chase Verret had a stellar weekend in net as well. In game 1, he faced 30 shots and allowed only 3 to go by.

Game 2 was another tight contest with the Cajuns grinding out a 5-1 lead with consistent play going into the 3rd period. The Cajuns took their foot off the pedal for a little too long and LSU brought it back to 5-4 in the last couple of minutes, but the Cajuns were able to hold on for a 2 game sweep and a well-deserved SCHL Division 1 title and a berth to Nationals this year in Feasterville, PA April 1-5. The Cajuns are sure to be a top seed in their pool play after a great regular season and league post-season.

CajunFun, I just sent you an email with the contacts on the team. It will be great to see an article. I wouldn't mind a blurb from Parrott either if possible, even if it is only a club sport.

I sent you and eMail, don't know if you got it.

I could NOT find any pictures except this one, and in my haste, I really didn't think about it being ice hockey...

My bad.

It would it be a fair claim to state 'UL was 'in-line' for this title."
