Louisiana Golf Ex-Cajuns hold benefit tourney

Advertiser-Dan McDonald dmcdonald@lafayette.gannett.com

LAFAYETTE — Several former UL Lafayette golfers reside in the Houston area, and that group has discovered a way to feed their golfing passion and help their alma mater at the same time.

Several of those ex-Cajuns teamed with the school’s alumni chapter in Houston to stage a benefit golf tournament in November, and the results were even more than they had dreamed.

“We’d never had a lot of organized athletic fund-raising in Houston,” said Cajun golf coach Bob Bass, “and I think the people over there were excited to be able to do something, to get involved and to help the program.”

Even with a weather postponement that pushed the event from October to the first weekend in November, the tournament at Old Orchard Golf Club raised more than $23,000 for the Cajun golf program.

Ex-UL Lafayette golfers Chad Williams, David Faherty and Sid Labbe were responsible for most of the organization along with Houston alumni chapter president Michael Patin.
